Giant said its first-quarter revenue was up 4.9% year-on-year, helped by a "substantial rebound in OEM orders."
The company had revenue of NT$16.85 billion (about RMB 4 billion) for the quarter, up from NT$16.06 billion a year earlier. Gross margin was 17.8%, and operating profit was NT$420 million, down 21.7%.
Giant said sales of its own-brand products were relatively modest compared with the first quarter of last year, when demand in the Chinese mainland was particularly strong.
"Nevertheless, bicycles remain popular in the Chinese mainland market, and the upcoming peak season is expected to drive stronger sales in the second and third quarters as demand in Giant's U.S. and European markets gradually recovers," the company said in a press release.
"Despite continued uncertainties such as global tariffs, trade tensions and exchange rate fluctuations, Giant has responded with caution and resilience. With its well-established global manufacturing network and strategic flexibility, the group continues to optimize production in various regions, reduce external risks, and seize emerging opportunities," the company said.
