How To Adjust The Fastest And Most Labor-saving Mountain Bike

List of commonly used gears for mountain bikes

1. Under normal circumstances, the front crankset is in 2nd gear. Use 5, 6, and 7 for the rear flywheel (do not use the largest gear). In other words, in most cases, it is a combination of 2--5, 2-6, and 2-7. The "general situation" here refers to starting, general riding, and riding at a maximum speed of 25-30.

2. If you encounter an uphill, just downshift the flywheel. Depending on the size of the slope, it becomes a combination of 2-4, 2-3, 2-2, and 2-1.

3. If you want to drive at high speed on a flat road, you should first raise the rear flywheel to achieve a combination of 2-8. At this time, the speed can generally reach 30-35. If you want to compete faster, add the front chainset to reach the highest combination of 3-8! At this time, under the condition of a certain cadence, the speed reaches the fastest, generally, 35-40 can be reached. If you want to slow down at this time, you should first reduce the crankset to 2-8; then reduce the flywheel to 2-5, 2-6, and 2-7. (When accelerating, first add the flywheel [1→8 direction], then add the crankset [1→3 direction]; when decelerating, first reduce the crankset [3→1 direction], and then reduce the flywheel [8→1 direction])

4. gear 1 of the crankset is generally not used unless you go uphill.

Matters needing attention

1. Common stalls

It is beneficial to advocate common combinations of 2-5, 2-6, and 2-7. One is to reduce the burden on the flywheel, and incorrect operation will affect the service life of the bicycle transmission system. Frequent use of combinations with large output ratios, such as 2-8, 3-8 combinations, will cause the smallest sprocket and the largest chainring to wear out faster. You will regret it if you are asked to change the flywheel after not playing for a long time. The second is to reduce the resistance when starting. Convenient, faster and easier start. The third is to protect the knees. Only using the combination of 2-8 and 3-8 for a long time will make the knee joint in a state of tension and force for a long time, which will cause greater damage to the knee.

2. Mountain bike starting gear
The purpose of designing so many gears on mountain bikes is to allow you to choose the most suitable gear according to different road conditions, physical fitness, and wind speed. Mountain bikes are not for racing, they don’t know how to change gears correctly, the riding efficiency is not high, and they will accelerate the wear of the flywheel chain and chainring. Some people even need to stand up and step on the bicycle to start, which will only cost more and damage the knees. At the same time, the start is slow and takes a long time, which reduces road safety. A truly proficient mountain bike player will be very skilled in changing gears according to road conditions.
If the road is smooth, you need to upshift when the speed is fast; if the road conditions are complex and the speed is slow, you need to downshift in advance when you even need to stop and start again. After waiting for the red light, you can still start and accelerate easily. This is the correct, safest, and most labor-saving way. Shifting gears can be done frequently and skillfully. Skilled players even change gears every 2 seconds, and they can change gears freely if they are proficient.

3. Keep your cadence high

Real mountain bike athletes usually don't pursue temporary speed, but try to maintain their cadence. No matter what the road conditions are, it is best to keep their cadence at around 90 beats per minute by changing gears. On the basis of not feeling too tired or too relaxed, you can use the appropriate gear to obtain higher riding efficiency! With such the best condition and the most comfortable cadence, it is possible to successfully complete long-distance cycling of hundreds of kilometers.

Some people say '2.7 doesn't feel particularly fast', now you should understand that 2--7 is not the fastest output combination because this gear is designed for ordinary road/medium speed riding, but 2-7 It is also the gear with the least effort and the least wear. If you want to pursue speed, please use the 3--8 gears when the physical strength and speed are pulled to 30-35 under suitable road conditions (the duration should not be too long, you can slowly practice and lengthen).
