British Sonder Bikes launches new El Camino to enter E-Gravel segment
As more and more gravel e-bikes appear in the field of e-bikes. Take, for example, the new El Camino from British bicycle manufacturer Sonder. The El Camino (the "El" probably stands for electric assist) is based on the non-electrically assisted Camino gravel bike, giving the rider a little extra versatility via Kyamic's powerful motor. The BC250 system is designed for lightweight performance bikes like the El Camino. Due to its location on the rear wheel set, it keeps the frame smooth and streamlined. The design solution with a built-in battery also helps maintain this elegant look.
Of course, adding motors, batteries, and controllers, as well as beefing up components to handle the extra push, results in some weight gain. However, it's worth mentioning that the Sonder has managed to keep the El Camino's weight gain to a minimum, making it just 3kg (about 6.6lbs) heavier than the non-electrically assisted Camino gravel bike. Additionally, with plenty of tire clearance on the frame, El Camino says it's able to offer a variety of tire options. There are also many expansion options for racks, bags and other accessories to turn the bike into a touring adventure e-bike.
Sonder offers a variety of configuration options for the El Camino, and by visiting their official website, there are eight configurations to choose from. There's even an entry-level flat bar option for city riding, priced at a fairly affordable £2,699 (approximately $3,417 USD). The range-topping model comes with high-end components such as a Sram Force 11-speed drivetrain and Alpha EX 700c wheels, and costs £3,399 (approximately $4,304).
